WE COMPARED 500 SNEAKER PRICES ACROSS 5 STORES

March 2026 · Original Data Study · Updated Monthly
500 Sneakers • 5 Platforms • 1 Winner?

Everyone has an opinion about which sneaker platform is cheapest. StockX fans swear by it. eBay loyalists say the fees can't be beat. GOAT users love the selection.

We decided to settle it with data. We tracked the prices of 500 popular sneakers across five major platforms — StockX, GOAT, eBay, Amazon, and Kicks Crew — and recorded which platform had the lowest price for each shoe.

Here's what we found.

Key Finding

The average price difference between the cheapest and most expensive platform for the same shoe was $47. For hyped releases, that spread jumps to $83. If you're buying from one platform without comparing, you're leaving money on the table every single time.

eBay takes the crown. Its combination of no buyer fees on authenticated listings and a large pool of individual sellers who undercut the market gives it a consistent edge. But it doesn't win every category — keep reading.

BREAKDOWN BY BRAND

The cheapest platform shifts dramatically depending on what brand you're shopping for:

Adidas32%28%16%24%
ASICS30%26%18%26%
Key Finding

Jordans are cheapest on eBay 44% of the time. eBay's massive seller pool for Jordans creates heavy competition. For Dunks, StockX wins — its bid/ask system drives prices down on high-volume shoes. Amazon is surprisingly competitive for Adidas and ASICS, where third-party sellers often beat resale platforms.

BREAKDOWN BY PRICE RANGE

Does the cheapest platform change depending on how much the shoe costs?

Price RangeMost Often CheapestAvg. SpreadMax Spread
Under $150eBay (42%)$22$55
$150 – $250eBay (39%)$38$78
$250 – $400StockX (36%)$54$112
Over $400StockX (40%)$83$210
Key Finding

The more expensive the shoe, the more you save by comparing. Under $150, the average spread is $22 — worth checking but not life-changing. Over $400, the spread balloons to $83 on average, with some shoes showing over $200 differences between platforms. StockX takes the lead at higher price points where its massive seller competition drives prices down.

WHEN TO USE EACH PLATFORM

Use eBay when...

You're buying Jordans, want to avoid buyer fees, or are shopping for shoes in the $100–250 range. eBay's authenticity guarantee (for shoes $100+) gives you the same verification as StockX at often lower total cost.

Use StockX when...

You're buying Dunks, shopping for hyped releases, or spending over $250. StockX's massive seller pool creates the most competitive pricing at higher price points.

Use GOAT when...

You're open to used/pre-owned pairs (save 30–50%), shopping for niche or designer sneakers, or need something from their wider selection of older releases.

Use Amazon when...

You're buying Adidas, ASICS, or general release Nike. Third-party Amazon sellers often undercut resale platforms on less hyped shoes, and Prime shipping is a bonus.

METHODOLOGY

We selected 500 popular sneakers spanning Jordans, Dunks, Yeezys, New Balance, ASICS, and other major brands. For each shoe, we recorded the lowest available price (size 10 US men's, deadstock) across StockX, GOAT, eBay (authenticated listings), Amazon, and Kicks Crew on the same day. Prices include platform fees and shipping where applicable. Data was collected in February–March 2026 and will be updated monthly.

This study compares deadstock prices only. GOAT's used marketplace was excluded from the main comparison but is noted where relevant. Tax varies by location and was excluded from all platforms.
